Understand media spending shifts of your competition

Written by Customer Support

You can use the Magnifier Solution to understand media spending shifts by category, advertiser or product in the Dashboard.

When assessing a current campaign or time period, you need to be armed with insights to determine your standing in the marketplace, and whether or not you need to make data driven shifts to outperform the competition and steal share of spend.

Use this feature to help answer key business questions, including:

  • Were there any shifts of media spend for my competitor in the last week of Quarter 1?

How it Works:

Select your Creative Dashboard.

To answer our business question, we need to adjust out date to reflect the last week in Quarter 1.

In this example, a Custom Range of March 22nd – March 28th has been selected.

Select Search.

Tip: Use the Refine Search option to adjust your search to include Category or Product, if needed.

In the dashboard, scroll to the Leading Advertisers Media Mix chart to view spend by media type.

The date range is set to the last 7 days of the 1st quarter: March 22nd – March 28th.

Hover over your competitor in the bar graph to view the break out of spend by media type.

In this example, the competitor AT&T spent a total of $31.011.57 million in the last week of Quarter 1.

While 78% of spend was allocated for Television, there was also activity for Mobile, Online Display, Online Video, and Radio.

Click on the 3-Dot Action Menu, located towards the top-right corner of the Leading Advertisers Media Mix view, and select the Export button to download the chart image in a variety of formats.

Select Download Excel to view the break out of spend by media type for each

competitor.

Excel Output Example:

Leverage the chart included in the Excel output to understand where you stand against the competition.

If you compare a previous week’s spend data (3/15 - 3/21) to another week

(3/22 - 3/28), you can determine if there has been a shift in spend.

Select Date Range to adjust your dates, then select Search.

Results:

Using the Leading Advertisers Media Mix chart week-over-week, we can quickly see that AT&T had the highest share of spend the week of 3/15 and Adobe, Inc. had the highest share of spend the week of 3/22.

AT&T spent more in Television the week of 3/15 compared to the week 3/22.

Adobe decreased spend in Television the week of 3/22.

There was also a shift in spend for my other competitors.

Exporting the data into excel, we are able to view spend by media type in more detail to determine shifts in spend.

For AT&T: TV, Online Video, and Online Display spend increased the week of 3/22 compared to the week of 3/15, while Mobile spend decreased.
