How to Leverage Canadian Message Elements

Canada Ad Intel now monitors selected messaging elements across all media. This means you can now search by creative messaging in the Ad Intel Platform.


Listed below are the attributes that are being captured for each unique creative as of June 9th 2021. Three message elements: The New Normal, Vaccine and Virus Response, have been captured since April 2020.

Award Show: Creatives that mention an awards event such as the Oscars, Emmy's, Golden Globes, Grammys, Junos etc.

Back to School: Creatives that mention back to school.

Black Friday: Creatives with messaging surrounding Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday

Boxing Day: Creatives that mention Boxing Day and/or Boxing Week.

Canada Day: Creatives with a Red & White theme, contain a Maple leaf, Canadian flag, Fireworks, Canada Day Parade, or mention Moving Day. This message element will only be applied to ads that are breaking or running for the specific holiday season in June and July.

Christmas: Creatives with "Holiday/Seasons/Christmas Greetings," Holiday decorations & lighting, Christmas music/jingles and/or mention New Years. This message element will only be applied to ads that are breaking or running during the specific holiday season in November and December.

Co op: Creatives with another brand mentioned as a partner or collaborator. The creative could contain two (or more) products belonging to two different corporations shown at the same time or one product introduced by multiple companies.

Easter: Creatives with a Bunny, decorated eggs, egg hunt, and/or mention Easter Monday or Good Friday. This message element will only be applied to ads that are breaking or running for the specific holiday season of March and April.

Eco Friendly: Creatives with mentions of energy saving, environment friendly products/services, solar power, hybrid, recycling material, electric cars, Earth Day, reduced emissions, and/or minimizing carbon footprint.

Fathers Day: Creatives that mention fathers or gifts for fathers. This message element will only be applied to ads that are breaking or running during this specific holiday season in the months of May and June.

Halloween: Creatives with an orange/purple theme, contain Halloween decor, costumes, spooky music, or mention trick or treat. This message element will only be applied to ads that are breaking or running during the specific holiday season in October.

Jean Baptiste Day: Creatives with a Blue & White theme, Fête nationale du Québec, and/or Quebec flag. This message element will only be applied to ads that are breaking or running during this specific holiday season in the month of June.

Labour Day: Creatives that mention of Labour Day. This message element will only be applied to ads that are breaking or running during this specific holiday season in the months of August and September.

Mothers Day: Creatives that mention mothers or gifts for mothers. This message element will only be applied to ads that are breaking or running during this specific holiday season in the months of April and May.

*New Normal: Creatives with messaging related to post COVID-19 return to normal messaging, new post COVID-19 "normal" and messaging such as Outdoor shopping/dining, Social distancing (more spacious), Safety precautions, re-openings, virtual care/online support, delivery service/curbside pickup, etc.

Olympics: Creatives with the five circles, national team, Olympic torch, and/or "official sponsor."

Other Holiday: Creatives that mention and/or contain themes surrounding other religious holiday such as Hanukkah, Diwali, Ramadan, Eid, Nowruz, Kwanzaa, etc.

Prime Day: Amazon creatives that explicitly mention Prime Day. This message element will only be applied to Amazon Ads only.

Sporting Event: Creatives that mention a playoff or a sporting event.

Thanksgiving: Creatives with Turkey and being thankful. This message element will only be applied to ads that are breaking or running during this specific holiday season in the months of October.

*Vaccine: Creatives with vaccine messaging related to the COVID-19 virus only.

Valentines Day: Creatives with Hearts, Roses, and/or have a red & pink theme, or romantic theme. This message element will only be applied to ads that are breaking or running during this specific holiday season in the months of January and February.

Victoria Day: Creatives that mention Victoria Day and/or have Fireworks. This message element will only be applied to ads that are breaking or running during this specific holiday season in the month of May.

*Virus Response: Creatives that mention or use the words COVID, COVID-19, and/or Coronavirus.

*These message elements have been captured since April 2020.
